Last weekend, I spent a very enjoyable few days at a Philosophy and Martial Arts conference, organized by Sylvia Burrow and Marc Ramsey, in Halifax, Nova Scotia. It was good to meet Damon Young, author of Distraction and co-editor (with Graham Priest) of Mertial Arts and Philosophy: Beating and Nothingness.

I've been getting back into martial arts in a big way over the last year. I used to box when I was a kid. The last time I did karate was more than half a lifetime ago. Brenin actually put a stop to it - I couldn't take him along to classes with me, and anyone who has read TPATW will remember what would happen if I left him on his own in the house. These days, I practice Goju Ryu karate. I don't know why I find fighting relaxing, but it seems I do.
